About 8 years ago the world was stunned when High Definition Plasma TVs came on the scene.  They had larger screens, but were thinner than those bulky Standard Definition TVs.  Recently, there has been a new trend in Eye Wear that reminds me of the Standard Definition TV versus HDTV debate.  That trend is High Resolution Lenses.  A technology I have just recently become aware of, but one that confused the heck out of me.  Why should we all trade our old lenses in for these supposedly, “High Resolution” ones? To help me answer that question I sat down with Dr. Charles Simon, owner of Simon Eye Associates in Wilmington, Delaware.  This is what he had to say:

“The difference between High Resolution Lenses and Standard Definition Lenses is the same difference found in High Definition TVs and Standard Definition TVs.  High Resolution Lenses simply make the “pixels” in the image sharper and clearer to the wearer.  Let’s say you were watching your favorite Late Night TV show and had two TVs set up side by side.  You would see a substantial difference between the HDTV and the Standard TV.  There is no longer a debate about this.  HDTVs are vastly superior to Standard Definition TVs  They are easier to see, use less energy, etc. etc.  Well, it’s the same thing with High Resolution Lenses.  If you were to take a pair of Eye Glasses that had Standard Lenses in them and replace one side with High Resolution Lenses and then put them on, you would notice an immediate difference.  You watch HDTV to get the best picture possible.  Why go through life in Standard Definition? Upgrade to High Resolution Lenses, like those from iZon and see the world for the first time.”
